A 3-star offensive tackle from Athens, AL, Spencer Dowland, has de-committed from Hugh Freeze's Auburn football program and reopened his recruitment. Dowland had been committed to Auburn since September 2, 2023. He attended 2024's Big Cat Weekend.

Per 247 Sports, Dowland holds ten total offers including Auburn as well as: Mississippi State, Arkansas, Florida State, North Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Troy, UAB, and Western Kentucky.

Dowland is listed at six-foot-six, 290lbs and projects as a tackle in college. The 247 composite ranking lists him as the No. 909 overall player, No. 65 offensive tackle, and the No. 34 overall player in the state of Alabama.

Cole Pinkston of Auburn Live, On3 brokedown Dowland's skill set as follows:

"— The first thing that pops about Dowland, besides his size, is his ability to finish blocks and use his raw power and leverage while being taller than everyone he goes against.

— Dowland has been a champion in wrestling and uses that understanding of leverage on the offensive line, and he uses it well.

— Dowland is not an elite athlete for a guy his size. Where he lacks in twitch at times, he makes up for in raw power."

This move could be a mutual parting of ways, as the SEC recently opted to stick with an 85 scholarship limit for the 2025 season instead of moving to the proposed 105 per CBS Sports.

The Tigers still have a few offensive linemen left on their recruiting board. These prospects include 5-star OT Andrew Babalola (Michigan), 4-star OT Malachi Goodman (Penn State), 4-Star OT Nick Brooks (Texas) and from the JUCO ranks Saquon Miles.

Auburn now has 27 total commitments and ranks No. 5 overall according to the 247sports team rankings.
