When I look at Auburn, I see an organization that is starting to be on the bandwagon with building a culture the right way. Alex Golesh’s tenure has started with a strong top-10 spot per ESPN’s Craig Haubert in his top 30 recruiting ranking. Which is promising but nothing that Auburn fans haven't seen before.
Although there is still the upcoming season to play, it doesn’t stop them from looking ahead to the 2028 class. Not only are they looking at top Alabama prospect Nememiah McCary, but they also look like they may lock down a fast-rising 3-star QB, Sam Sollie, from Gadsden City.
He would be the first commitment of the 2028 class for Auburn. He'd be leading a pack that could have some big names when it's all said and done. But being recruited by Auburn is one thing; it is another to actually want to be a Tiger.
That is highly promising because Sollie has also spoken highly of the Tigers already, telling SI’s Brooks Crew:
“I love Auburn ... Just the coaching staff, I love what Golesh is going to do this year. I love the campus; I love the fanbase. I actually grew up an Auburn fan, so Auburn’s extra special to me too… I remember going to games when I was younger and thinking to myself, like ‘dang, I want to be one of those guys one day. I want to be an Auburn Tiger.”
That is huge for Auburn. Answers like that are exactly what Golesh is trying to build here. Getting ahead of the ball and landing a QB who can climb up the recruiting charts with another two good years of play is what every coach has always wanted. Rosters are built years ahead of time, so having someone who wants to be here and lead this team makes recruiting him all the more important.
Sollie, who is set to make his choice on August 8th, has already told Crew that Auburn has been recruiting him the hardest and also told him, "Auburn is 100% trending towards the top of his board.” Just look at his X account; the last few posts he has made have all been Auburn-related. On top of that, he even liked my own comment on Rival’s Chad Simmons’ X post when I said: “Auburn would be wise to keep pushing for this kid.”
If that isn't suspicious in a good way, then I don't know what is.
The 8th should be a great day for Auburn, as it looks like Sam should be picking the Plains as his home for what should be a special college career. Although it does make me ask one question...
What would the offense look like in 2028 with a freshman Sam Sollie?
If we are all looking into a futuristic crystal ball and trying to predict what 2028 will look like, I would hope I would be able to say that Tristan Ti’a would be our confident starter with a high-flying offense. From there, Sollie could come in as the backup and inherit whatever offensive leftovers Ti'a's tenure would leave for him. Big bonus for having at least three more years with Sam to contend at that point.
This could be a situation where, two years from now, Sollie has some nickname from Monster’s Inc. and is a 5-star prospect coming into the Plains. Wouldn't that be a sight better than Deuce Knight?
Keeping an eye on Gadsden City’s next two seasons is going to be extremely fun to watch. Sollie looks like a bright-future'd young man, and he gets two more seasons of developing into the kind of man Auburn and Golesh need to lead this team.
