Auburn has lost one of its biggest playmakers on defense in Robert Woodyard Jr.

Per CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer, the Tigers’ linebacker intends to enter the transfer portal after three seasons on the Plains.

As a junior in 2025, Woodyard recorded 67 total tackles (47 solo) with seven tackles for a loss, two sacks, five quarterback hurries and a pass broken up, teaming up with Xavier Atkins at the second level for DJ Durkin’s defense.

Robert Woodyard Jr. took a leap in 2024

A 4-star recruit out of Williamson High School in Mobile in the 2022 signing class, Woodyard played four games in his first season with Auburn, earning defensive scout team of the year, before appearing in just three games in 2023. He became a regular contributor in 2024, recording 17 tackles with three tackles for a loss and a pass broken up.

With his announcement, Woodyard becomes the 20th Auburn player who intends to enter the transfer portal once it opens on January 2.
