Earlier this week, the Auburn Tigers football team added its 19th commit to its recruiting class of 2027 in 3-star safety Knyair Crumb. He announced his choice live on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel, and reported that a specific Auburn Tigers coach was the driving force behind his decision: defensive coordinator DJ Durkin.

"I loved his energy," Crumb told 247Sports. "When he came to visit me at DeMatha, he was all calm, cool, collected. I got down there on the official visit and we get in that meeting room, it's a completely different coach Durkin than what I saw here at DeMatha.

"I love the love he has for football. I can just feel it when he talks. He's intentional behind everything that he says. Same with (safeties) coach (Tim) Banks."

Crumb is the latest player from Maryland who ended up committing to the Tigers, joining edge rusher Rion Jackson in the recruiting class of 2027. The DeMatha Catholic product is ranked as the No. 48 safety in his recruiting class and the No. 12 recruit out of his home state.

Crumb said that the genuine nature of the Tigers' new coaching staff contributed to his decision as well as the relationships he has been building along the way.

"One thing in this process that I asked the whole coaching staff to never do to me is lead me in the wrong direction," he said. "If they weren't feeling me, let me know that and we will move on but they kept it real with me all the way through.

"Everything Coach Banks told me would happen, happened. When you can feel that, and when you can see someone doing that, trust gets gained. It overrode all the other schools that had reached out to me during the process."

The Auburn Tigers recruiting class of 2027 is currently ranked No. 14 overall and No. 6 in the SEC and is made up of 19 commits.
