After adding two 7-footers to next year's roster, Auburn Tigers head basketball coach Steven Pearl and his staff are still adding size to the lineup.
On Monday morning, the Tigers secured the commitment of former Creighton big man Owen Freeman from the transfer portal. At 6-foot-9, Freeman is the third addition to next year's frontcourt alongside 7-footers Bukky Oboye and Narcisse Ngoy. The Tigers are also anticipating more availability from Emeka Oporum, who missed last season due to injury.
Freeman began his collegiate career at Iowa and was the Big 10 Freshman of the Year in the 2023-24 season. He was limited in his second year with the Hawkeyes due to a broken finger, and then transferred to Creighton. This past season, Freeman was limited by another injury, to his knee, and he was unable to practice with the team until just before the season began.
The Tigers now have three to four guys on the roster who could play center. Guards Kevin Overton and Simon Walker and forward Sebastian Williams-Adams are also set to return for Pearl and Co. Perhaps most significantly, star player Tahaad Pettiford is set to return for his junior year. Meanwhile, Elijah Freeman (Texas), Filip Yovic (UCLA), Kaden Magwood, and Abdul Bashir have all elected to hit the transfer portal.
After a season full of highs and lows, from missing the NCAA Tournament to winning the NIT, the Tigers are hoping to put together a more competitive roster ahead of the Pearl's second season on the Plains.
