The Auburn Tigers football program may lose a Mobile-area recruit to Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs. Dawn of the Dawg's Trevor Michael believes the Dawgs could ripe to flip 4-star Cottage Hill Christian Academy LB Shadarius Toodle.
Michael added a bit of rubbing some dirt in Hugh Freeze's face, as well as Bryan Harsin's and Gus Malzahn's dating back to Smart's hiring ahead of the 2016 season.
"It goes without saying how dominant UGA has been over Auburn the last few years. In fact, Georgia has won the last eight meetings against Auburn, which includes a dominant 31-13 victory this past season," Michael wrote.
"There are a lot of reasons why Georgia has been so much better than Auburn, but the biggest reason is because of their dominant recruiting compared to the Tigers. And it's moments like this that will continue to lead Georgia in their dominance over their hated rival.
"After watching Jackson Cantwell commit to Miami (FL) over Georgia last week, UGA fans learned that anything is possible in recruiting. But as it stands right now, it may just be a matter of time until the Bulldogs officially flip Toodle from Auburn."
Losing Toodle would be a bad look for defensive coordinator DJ Durkin, a natural successor to Freeze if the backlash from his bowl game expectations comment and a slow start, with Baylor and Oklahoma on the schedule, leads to the Oxford, Mississippi native's Plains departure.
Durkin fending off foes like Georgia would be a great way to strengthen his candidacy enough to be an internal hire down the line. Losing them could inspire enough fundraising to find a coach who will build a new staff from scratch if things go awry.
