In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, the baseball team takes down Alabama State, and men's golf wins the General Hackler Championship
After a dramatic finish to Auburn baseball's final matchup with Vanderbilt, the grand slams keep coming. Cade Belyeu won the game for the Tigers with a grand slam in Sunday's game, and then the team defeated Alabama State 13-9 with a grand slam from Lucas Steele.
The grand slam put the Tigers back on top after they were trailing in the fourth inning, and Eric Snow, Cooper McMurray, Bub Terrell, and Belyeu all contributed two hits in the matchup. Chase Fralick and Eric Guevara each logged two RBIs.
“I keep saying that I think this team is more capable,” said coach Butch Thompson, who won his 300th career game at AU, per Auburn Rivals. “Tonight, the offense really held steady for us and we needed them in a big way.”
The Tigers return to action on the road this weekend against No. 24 Kentucky.
Men's golf wins the General Hackler Championship
The No. 1 ranked Auburn men's golf team had a successful week at the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Tigers led the whole time and ultimately won the title, their second title win this spring. The first was the Southern Highlands title in Las Vegas.
The reigning national champions began the season ranked No. 2, but have risen to the top spot over the last few weeks. Next up, the Tigers will compete in the Valspar Collegiate in Palm City, Florida.
"We've got to get rest, number one," Head Coach Nick Clinard said, per Auburn Undercover. "We've got to get back in the classroom and take care of our academics. And then we just have to be ready to play and have to get prepared. We have to get to know the golf course quickly. We're not really paying too much attention to the outside, we're just trying to be the best versions of ourselves on a daily basis."
