In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, the baseball team opens SEC play against Vanderbilt, and Dick Vitale predicts the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament
The Auburn baseball team has had a pretty successful start in non-conference play but will be gearing up to face their SEC foes later this week. The Tigers are off to a 13-3 start and are coming off a split 2-2 week where they lost to UAB and then dropped Saturday's game to Old Dominion despite winning the series.
Auburn baseball will face off against UT-Martin in Huntsville on Tuesday and will return home to Plainsman Park to host the Vanderbilt Commodores this weekend for their first conference series.
"It's obviously a different feeling when you step on the field against another SEC team," shortstop Deric Fabian said, per Auburn Undercover. "I think we're well-prepared. We have a strong week ahead of us, but we've got to focus on UT-Martin on Tuesday. Then we'll get ready for SEC play. Overall, we're excited."
Dick Vitale predicts the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament
The regular season has come to a close for the Auburn basketball team, and now the focus has to shift to the postseason. The Tigers won the SEC regular season title but will play for the SEC championship this weekend in the conference tournament in Nashville. After the SEC tournament, it's time for March Madness.
The Tigers suffered two tough losses to Texas A&M and Alabama to close out the season, but Auburn basketball still has a better resume and more Quad-1 wins than any other team in the country. For that reason, Dick Vitale believes the Tigers will lock down the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament.
"In the new AP Top 25 most likely Duke will be the new No. 1 at 28 -3 but I believe due the strength of the SEC & 15 Quad wins the Selection Committee will have Auburn as the overall No. 1 seed," wrote Vitale on X, per Auburn Undercover.
"Looking at these numbers, no matter what happens this weekend or during Championship Week, Auburn on Selection Sunday will be No. 1 on the 1st line. Can't deny these numbers."
