In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Johni Broome's Player of the Year campaign has begun, and Chad Baker-Mazara scores his thousandth point

For the whole season, it has realistically been a two-man race for National Player of the Year. Fifth-year senior Johni Broome is up against true freshman Cooper Flagg of the Duke Blue Devils.

Following the midweek win over the Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn basketball launched the official campaign for Broome's candidacy. Should Broome win the award, he would be the first Player of the Year in Auburn basketball history.

The campaign site is divided into four sections: Dominance, which features Broome's stats from the season; Recognition, which features quotes from experts and awards Broome has won this season; Legacy, which demonstrates Broome as one of the most productive players in the league and conference history; and Impact, where Broome speaks about how playing Auburn basketball has impacted him.

Chad Baker-Mazara scores his thousandth point

The Tigers earned another win earlier this week against Arkansas, battling the Razorbacks to a 67-60 victory in Neville Arena. It was a scrappy game for Auburn basketball, but it was a historical game for senior guard Chad Baker-Mazara.

With just under five minutes in the first half of the game, Baker-Mazara knocked down a pair of free-throws and officially logged the 1000th point of his college career.

“It was pretty fun, not gonna lie,” Baker-Mazara said of the recognition he received from the sold-out Neville Arena crowd for his accomplishment, per Auburn Rivals. “I didn’t get mine in high school, so it was a goal of mine to come and get it in college.

“It was pretty cool because my first point in college was a free throw and my 1,000th point in college was a free throw. So yeah, I'm pretty hyped because of that."

The Tigers return to action this Saturday when they host Georgia in Neville Arena.
