In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, DJ Durkin got a raise for a reason, and a 4-star cornerback locks in an official visit
Earlier this week it was announced that Auburn football defensive coordinator DJ Durkin signed a contract extension with the Tigers. Reports indicate that the deal extends a year beyond his original contract, keeping Durkin on the Plains until 2027, and he will be paid a base salary of up to $2.5 million in 2025.
According to Auburn Rivals' Brian Stultz, Durkin received an extension and pay raise to keep him at Auburn following a job offer from Ohio State. Former OSU defensive coordinator Jim Knowles recently left to take the same position at Penn State.
“Reason for DJ Durkin’s raise and extension? Per sources, it was because Ohio State came in with an offer trying to pry him away from Auburn. Hugh Freeze wasn’t going to let that happen,” said Stultz on X.
Durkin is now the second most highly paid assistant in college football after Knowles.
4-star cornerback locks in official visit
As the recruiting grind continues for the Auburn football coaching staff, another highly-ranked prospect has locked in an official visit on the Plains. 4-star cornerback Caden Harris will officially visit campus this summer, the weekend of June 13th.
From Brownsville, Tennessee, Harris is ranked as the No. 14 cornerback in the recruiting class of 2026 and the No. 4 recruit out of his home state. He has over 30 offers from programs around the country, and is being pursued by some of Auburn football's biggest rivals.
In addition to his official visit to the Plains, he will also make stops at Vanderbilt (May 30), Georgia (June 6), and Alabama (June 20). He was originally supposed to visit Tennessee, his in-state school, on June 13 but instead will visit Auburn.
