Today marks the opening of the NCAA transfer portal, and another Auburn football player has announced intentions to enter it. Wide receiver Caleb Burton III will be looking for a new school after two seasons on the Plains.

Burton originally began his career at Ohio State, signing with the Buckeyes as a 4-star wide receiver out of Texas. He transferred to Auburn ahead of the 2023 season, during which he seemed to be building a spot for himself in the rotation. However, his role decreased with the revamp of the wide receiver room in 2024, including bringing in freshmen Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons alongside veteran KeAndre Lambert-Smith.

Burton will end his career at Auburn with 18 receptions for 275 yards with 16 of those catches coming last season.

While some players are about to head out from Auburn, there are quite a few true freshmen who are about to come in, including a very impressive group of defensive linemen. The Tigers managed to sign five d-linemen last week, four of which are in-state players.

According to head coach Hugh Freeze, defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams was the biggest factor in landing the group, which includes multiple 5-star players.

"As these top recruits started coming to practice and seeing the way he works with , the way he interacts with them and then getting to know him," Freeze said, per Auburn Rivals. "He was persistent in the recruiting process in convincing people like Malik, Antonio, Jourdin, Darrion and Jared was a combination of him and Josh (Aldridge). That’s a pretty dang good haul for a high school defensive line class."
