Auburn football players share their reactions to the talents of true freshman wide receiver Cam Coleman
While there are plenty of talented players in Auburn football's recruiting class of 2024, there's no doubt that the crown jewel of the class is 5-star wide receiver Cam Coleman. It was a long recruitment, one that nearly ended in Coleman's commitment to Texas A&M. But now Coleman has the opportunity to significantly change the game for the Tigers.
For the past few years, Auburn football has struggled in the wide receiver department. In fact, last year's leading pass catcher was actually tight end Rivaldo Fairweather, who told the media he was encouraged by the imrovements at the WR position because it will make his job easier this fall.
Fairweather contends that Coleman is not the only game-changing wide receiver on the Plains this fall, and has faith in a lot of the younger pass catchers.
"Cam, when he first came in, I didn't know he was going to be that good," Fairweather said this week, per Auburn Undercover. "I'm not going to lie to you. Some freshmen come in, and they slowly play their way in and build their way up. But Cam came in ready to play. Malcolm Simmons is actually good, too. He's a sleeper. He's pretty fast out there. Bryce Doss is pretty good. Perry Thompson is a big receiver. He's going to be good. All our receivers are good. We have depth at receiver. They're not going to be able to stop us."
From the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Austin Keys said Coleman is a player that truly stands out on the Tigers' offense.
"First, Cam Coleman," Keys said. "He makes a spectacular catch every practice. The dude has bunnies. It's unlike anything I've ever seen in my life. It's a different generation of stuff. Cam is crazy. Shout out to all the wide receivers. Shout out to the whole offense. They give us different every day. They look way, way different."
Auburn football and Cam Coleman will play their first game of the season August 31 against Alabama A&M in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
