The transfer portal's only window is finally open, and the action is just getting started. With many Auburn Tigers expected to hit the portal in the next few days, new head coach Alex Golesh will have a big budget to work with when it comes to building his first roster on the Plains.
Golesh and his staff got busy quickly and have already locked in one visit from a transfer portal entrant. Oklahoma State transfer offensive tackle Grant Seagren will make his way to Auburn's campus this weekend. The offensive lineman entered the transfer portal early due to the rules triggered by Mike Gundy's firing earlier this year.
Seagren will visit three schools in addition to the Tigers: his own school Oklahoma State on Jan. 3-4, Northwestern on Jan. 5-6 and Arkansas TBD. According to On3 Sports, Seagren is currently the No. 2 offensive tackle in the transfer portal.
He spent his first two collegiate seasons as a walk-on tight end at Nebraska before entering the portal, bulking up, and switching positions at Oklahoma State. He began as a backup before working his way to a starting role after a player was injured. Although he entered the portal midseason after Gundy's firing, he continued to play and finish out the season for the Cowboys.
"While I am in the portal, I got an agent for that whole process," Seagren told 247Sports' McClain Baxley back in November, per Auburn Undercover. "I haven't had a single conversation really with any teams or anybody like that. The goal is to always come back. It's kind of like having car insurance — just because you have it doesn't mean you want to go wreck your car."
Still, offensive linemen will be a major priority for the Tigers in the portal, so Seagren may be convinced to make the move to the Plains.
