Former Auburn Tigers quarterback Deuce Knight will have no shortage of suitors when he enters the transfer portal this offseason. Knight announced his intentions to explore his options on Tuesday after Cam Coleman's transfer decision on Monday.
College Football HQ On SI's Kevin Borba tabbed the LSU Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels, Indiana Hoosiers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Oregon Ducks as potential landing spots for Knight when the January portal window opens on January 2.
Of that bunch, the Rebels and Fighting Irish feel like the most likely options.
Ole Miss is definitely losing Trinidad Chambliss, either to Lane Kiffin's snaking ways at LSU or because the NCAA won't grant him eligibility. That probably takes the Tigers out of the running. Knight is from Lucedale, Mississippi, and celebrated in Oxford after the Rebs upset the Georgia Bulldogs during the 2024 season. There are many ties there to his home state, and Ole Miss may be more ready to embrace Knight's growing pains, if there are any, than the others. They're the likeliest to regress of this bunch.
Notre Dame, meanwhile, needs QB competition for CJ Carr after Kenny Minchey's entry into the transfer portal. Given that Knight was fully ready to be in that competition last year, there's no reason to think he wouldn't consider it again.
Oregon and Indiana may be hesitant to throw money at an unestablished option and would probably go for someone who's on the doorstep of the NFL like they did with Dante Moore and Fernando Mendoza, respectively.
Deuce Knight will break Auburn's heart one way or another
Either way, Knight is set to break Auburn's hearts during the rest of his football career, wherever he goes next, and after that, so on and so forth.
Knight could go on to do great things and make everyone wonder what could've happened had he stayed on the Plains. Irrational folk may wonder what could've happened had a certain underperforming coach not been fired.
On the flip side, he could look awful. Then, Tiger fans would wonder why he was paid seven figures to sit on the bench, presumably with at least another year of paying him to ride the pine planned.
Hugh Freeze, man. What a ride. We'll leave that one in 2025.
