Bruce Pearl, Auburn basketball win key recruiting decision amidst hot start to season
By Brooks Crew
On November 12, Auburn basketball found themselves the benefactor of another huge commitment: Kaden Magwood. The four-star guard is ranked No. 44 overall in the country and No. 1 in the state of North Carolina.
The six-foot-one, 170-pounder is ranked seventh among guards in the country; 247Sports’ Director of Scouting described him as “one of the most naturally talented bucket-getting guards in the national class. He's a tough shot-maker who is capable of getting his shot off whenever he wants and yet still posted incredibly efficient splits of 53/52/80, while scoring almost 23 points per game… Magwood is competitive, aggressive, and extremely confident… He's a capable passer… Defensively, he's active looking to make plays (1.7 steals per game).”
The Charlotte native chose the Tigers over top programs Ole Miss, NC State, and Georgia Tech, though, from the beginning, On3 predicted Magwood to land at Auburn, boasting an 89.6% chance.
Bruce Pearl has recruited Auburn basketball into national relevance
Bruce Pearl’s recruiting, though often overshadowed by that of Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze, has been the stuff of legend. In fact, Magwood has already been compared to breakout star freshman Tahaad Pettiford, who’s been making waves at Auburn, despite having just played two games.
Despite adversity following their matchup against Houston, the Tigers now stand at No. 1 in the KenPom rankings, and Magwood looks to add to this already dominant team.
The Auburn basketball core continues to strengthen with key players like Magwood, ensuring Pearl’s squad will continue to be a powerhouse in years to come.
