If you listen to the college football experts at CBS Sports, Auburn shouldn't even make the trip out to Norman, Okla., this weekend to battle Oklahoma in the SEC opener for the Tigers.
In their Week 4 predictions, all six pundits have the Sooners defeating Hugh Freeze's team. Although they don't assign a score to the prediction, it's likely that some of them don't think the Tigers have a shot to pull off the upset, despite being underdogs by just 6.5 points.
However, games aren't decided on websites or message boards, and the Tigers are looking to win their second road game of the season as they travel west again for their first-ever trip to Norman. The story of the game is the return of Jackson Arnold, the former 5-star recruit who started his career for the Sooners before transferring to the Plains this past offseason. He struggled a bit last year when starting, and looking for a fresh start, found Auburn to be the right fit.
In the meantime, the Sooners went out and signed John Mateer from Washington State, who has quickly jumped up the Heisman Trophy charts with a strong beginning to his first season playing for Brent Venables.
Last season, in their first conference meeting, Auburn had control of the game until a late interception by Payton Thorne was returned for a touchdown, giving the Sooners the lead. The Tigers could never recover, and the result was a 27-21 loss to Oklahoma.
Auburn and Oklahoma kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, with the game airing on ABC.
