In a twist of fate that would further bury morale on the Plains, Deion Sanders is apparently in the mix to flip Hugh Freeze's top recruit in the Auburn Tigers' 2026 class, Hartfield High School safety, and Flowood, Mississippi, product Bralan Womack.
Why a twist of fate? Coach Prime was an option in 2022 to replace Bryan Harsin, but AD John Cohen went with the "safer" choice.
The rest is history. Colorado has had a Heisman and won nine games in a season since 2023. Auburn now has a coach on the hot seat who promises results every week, then isn't at fault for always being "close" but never smoking the cigar. Not in his own eyes, anyway.
Colorado Buffaloes On SI's Thomas Gorski believes Coach Prime and Co. are a poach threat, albeit a fairly remote one, for now, to flip Womack -- and in the process, send a knockout punch to Freeze's Tigers tenure.
"After a conversation with offensive line coach Gunnar White, he shared on social media how blessed he was to receive an offer from the program. He remains hard-committed to Auburn for now, but with questions about Hugh Freeze’s future, his recruitment could still take a turn," Gorski wrote.
"Landing a player of his caliber would be a big addition as Colorado continues to build its Big 12 identity. Even if the chances are slim, the offer shows the Buffaloes aren’t backing down from competing with the nation’s top programs.
"The fact that Sanders has successfully landed other five-star recruits such as Travis Hunter, Jordan Seaton, and Julian Lewis makes it hard to rule out the Buffaloes. Until it’s official, they should still be in the mix for Womack."
First the recruits, then the locker room. Harsin experienced flips before his guys seemingly gave up on him during a 41-27 loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks on October 29, 2022. He was fired on Halloween.
If Freeze loses Womack to anyone, though especially Coach Prime and Colorado, it's hard not to see the divide further after already showing cracks after Damari Alston's ouster.
Practically none of the signs on the field or on the recruiting trail bode well for Freeze right now.
