Although Eric Winters took a recent visit to Georgia, the 4-star safety has affirmed his pledge to Hugh Freeze and the Tigers

Throughout his commitment, 4-star safety Eric Winters was tasked with choosing between Georgia and Auburn football. From Enterprise, Alabama, Winters is ranked as the #5 safety in the recruiting class of 2025 and is the #5 recruit out of the state.

After multiple trips to the Plains, Winters knew that he was ready to commit to the Tigers in June, immediately after his official visit. Head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff have been stacking the recruiting class of 2025, aiming to beat out their #8 ranking from the previous year.

The class currently sits at #3 overall, but with the Tigers' lack of success on the field, there has been fear from the fanbase that things could fall apart. Head coach Kirby Smart and the Dawgs never gave up on their recruitment of Winters, and last weekend the safety took another visit to Athens.

According to Auburn Rivals, the visit was a positive for Auburn football, and it allowed Winters to determine that the Plains is truly where he wants to play college ball next year.

"Really just to reassure my commitment to Auburn and I think that’s what it did," Winters said on why he visited. "Definitely the effort on the defensive side of the ball. Watching Kaleb (Harris) and Demarcus, all those guys ball out. Guys like Keldric (Faulk), just watching that, that’s inspiring and reassuring my commitment."

Winters echoed the sentiments of Freeze, explaining that although the Tigers may have a losing record, it's clear that they are close to getting back to the Auburn standard.

"They’re just a couple plays away from beating the Georgia’s and the Alabama’s," Winters said. "Last year, they were one play away from beating Alabama. They just need a couple more players and they’ll be good."
