On Wednesday night, two of Auburn's best wide receivers – Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons – were listed as questionable on the Tigers' availability report. Following practice on Thursday, Hugh Freeze gave better news on the receiving duo.
Coleman suffered an ankle injury in the first half of Auburn's 33-24 over Arkansas this past Saturday, returning in the second half but not looking fully healthy. However, the Auburn head coach believes he is getting closer to where he needs to be.
"Today is a jog-through, and he did do that and looked good doing it," Freeze said, according to Auburn Undercover. "Tells me he feels pretty good and he's gonna give it a go. He wants to play and he's going to give everything he can to do that."
Simmons' name was a surprise on the availability report. The sophomore caught three passes for 17 yards against the Razorbacks, but on Tuesday during practice, he hyperextended his knee.
Freeze doesn't think it will hold him out against Kentucky.
"He looked pretty decent today, too," Freeze said.
The better news is that running back Durell Robinson has been medically cleared and will be back against the Wildcats. Robinson has been out since the Ball State game after waking up the following morning with a thigh issue that required medical procedure. Still, Freeze knows it will be essential to get Jeremiah Cobb, who ran for 153 yards on 28 carries against the Hogs, the ball.
"I think you've still got to get Jeremiah his touches," Freeze said. "We'll see how the game goes and how fresh he can stay. Definitely good to have Durell back."
