Auburn caught a break ahead of the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry game against Georgia in Week 7. Running back Chauncey Bowens won't be suiting up for the Bulldogs when the two squads collide in Athens.

On3's Pete Nakos first reported the news, which spells trouble for Mike Bobo, Kirby Smart, and the rest of UGA's coaching staff beyond this weekend.

"Georgia running back Chauncey Bowens will miss Saturday’s game against Auburn, and his status moving forward is in doubt, sources tell On3’s Pete Nakos. Bowens suffered a lower-body injury during the Vanderbilt game. A return timetable is unclear at this time," On3's Thomas Goldkamp wrote.

Bowens missed the Dawgs' 20-17 win over Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium this past weekend. He isn't the only Georgia running back who has missed time in 2026.

Dante Dowdell is out for the season after a freak ATV incident. Nate Frazier has bruised ribs that made him a late scratch against the Crimson Tide.

Dwight Phillips Jr. got roughed up against Alabama but plans on playing a large role against the Tigers.

“I feel a little beat up, but through six games I bet everyone is feeling a little bruised up,” Phillips said this week. “I’ll rely on my treatment and feel better. Anything to help my team week in and week out, I’m willing to do.”

Auburn's running back room has had its fair share of injuries as well

The Tigers can relate to the Dawgs' injury woes. Jeremiah Cobb is the only healthy running back in the room who's gotten regular reps.

USF transfer Nykahi Davenport hasn't seen the field all year. It appears Davenport hasn't earned the reps in practice, since no significant injuries have been reported.

Omar Mabson II suffered a leg injury against Vanderbilt that didn't keep him out of the Tennessee game. Mabson had a standout performance on Rocky, amassing 62 yards on nine carries. He may be a candidate to have an increased workload.

Baylor Bryson Washington didn't record any snaps but was on the field against the Volunteers. He had a soft-tissue injury in the offseason.

Auburn's running back room has not had a strong performance this season, but the interior offensive line bears some blame.

We'll see whose banged-up running back room can give its team the edge this Saturday.
