Lane Kiffin is almost assuredly set to become the LSU Tigers' next head football coach. The latest rumor on Thursday on Kiffin-to-LSU seems to all but clinch it, especially because of the way the information was framed.

CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz confirmed that "If/when Lane Kiffin is hired as LSU’s head coach, LSU is open to former Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron being part of Kiffin’s staff."

Saturday Blitz's Nicholas Rome painted the picture of Kiffin having Orgeron as his defensive coordinator or defensive line coach, and current Tigers interim head coach Frank Wilson as offensive coordinator or running backs coach.

"The move would be truly incredible as LSU fans still clamor about how Ed Orgeron should be with the program in some capacity. Adding Ed Orgeron to a staff with Frank Wilson would help the Tigers dominate recruiting in Louisiana," Rome wrote.

"Lane Kiffin would most likely be open to the idea as well as he has a strong relationship with the former Tigers Head Coach. Orgeron and Kiffin worked together at USC under Pete Carroll before they reunited when Kiffin took the Tennessee job, and Orgeron even followed Lane Kiffin back to USC when the two left Tennessee.

"Ed Orgeron is an incredible figure in the SEC, and him returning to LSU years after he was fired from the program would be an incredible story to follow."

Lane Kiffin leaving Ole Miss before the CFP is horrible look for Rebels

Kiffin may give up the best chance of his career to make the College Football Playoff because the grass could be greener on the other side than it is in Oxford, Mississippi. That's a brutal look, and one that probably makes many head coaching candidates question if the Ole Miss Rebels job is the best path forward.

If Kiffin getting seemingly unlimited autonomy at the University of Mississippi isn't enough to keep him from Louisiana State University, which has two internal guys they want to install on his staff before he's even hired, then who would prioritize the Rebels job?

Ole Miss football is about to find that Kiffin was who was holding their program up for so long. Especially because his departure could mean the CFP selection committee won't value the Rebs the same.

Ole Miss should give a call to Hugh Freeze

Unironically, Ole Miss may want to give Hugh Freeze a call.

After rehabilitating his image with the Auburn Tigers with a scandal-free tenure that was only marred by bad play-calling, throwing players under the bus, and excessive golfing, Freeze is known as a good recruiter again, if a suspect play-caller.

It'd make a lot of sense to reunite with Derrick Nix and let him run the offense based on how the Tigers looked in a 45-38 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Things didn't end well last time between the University of Mississippi and Freeze, but they may not have many better options moving forward following Kiffin's display of utter apathy towards the school while it's at its modern historical peak.
