In the midst of spring practices, the Auburn football program has been hosting recruits from all over the country who want to get a closer look at how the team practices, how the coaches interact with the team, and more.
Recently, the Tigers hosted two 4-star receivers on the Plains. The first is Marquez Daniel, and the second is Jase Mathews.
From Tuskegee, Alabama, Daniel had not been on campus since last November when he visited for the Tigers' matchup against Texas A&M. The wide receiver spent his Saturday checking out the team's practice and observing wide receivers coach Marcus Davis in action.
"Great practice," Daniel said, per Auburn Rivals. "He's gonna celebrate every time you do something good. When you do something wrong, he’s on you."
Daniel plans to return to the Plains in early June for an official visit, and plans to officially visit Tennessee and Florida before returning to Auburn for Big Cat Weekend. He hopes to have a decision sometime this summer.
From Leakesville, Mississippi, Jase Mathews plays for the rival high school of current Auburn quarterback Deuce Knight, so the pair already have an existing relationship. He spent Tuesday on the Plains observing practice and speaking with Coach Davis.
Mathews has five official visits already lined up to Colorado, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Miami, and Auburn football. However, he expects he will get back to the Plains before his official visit in June.
"Seeing the relationship I built with the coaching staff and getting to speak with Coach Freeze, it's just been great," Mathews said, per Auburn Rivals. "Coach Freeze, he's a guy that's brought me close and gives me messages about life more than football. He gave me more information about life than football and he's been helping me continue my football journey."
Mathews hopes to make a final decision by late summer or early fall.
