Auburn football's closer ready to take on leadership role in 2024
This Auburn football defensive back is looking forward to taking on a leadership role for the Tigers in 2024
Earlier this month, the Auburn football team got big news from defensive back Keionte Scott, who announced he would be returning to the Plains for another season rather than declaring for the NFL draft.
All year long, Scott has been an impact player for the Tigers on and off the field. From making plays on defense to carrying the ball as a punt returner, he was a key part of the Auburn football team during the 2023 season.
Off the field, Scott became known as 'The Closer' for his recruiting efforts. He truly believes in the vision that head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff have for the program, and as someone who truly sees Auburn as his home, Scott prides himself on being able to show that experience to all the recruits considering Auburn football.
But with guys like Jaylin Simpson heading for the NFL, Scott knows that it's time for him to step into a leadership role on the defense to help out all the younger guys on the roster and to set the standard for what is expected of an Auburn football player, per Auburn Undercover:
“Definitely the leader in the room,” Scott said of his mindset for his senior year. “Just making sure that I'm being able to help everybody, give everybody advice, and ultimately, just this year of making sure we're ultimately bringing up some of the younger guys and evaluating them and moving them up to become vets and learn the terminology and stuff, so when I do depart next year that they're able to carry on the standard in the DB room.”
Scott will be switching position in 2024, moving from nickel to cornerback for his final year on the Plains. The Tigers will take on the Maryland Terrapins in the Music City Bowl on December 30 at 1:00 p.m.
