Auburn football holds key advantage in Julian Lewis sweepstakes
The Auburn football program's proximity to western Georgia, specifically Carrollton via I85 and Highway 27, makes the Plains an intriguing option for Julian Lewis if the home is where the heart is in the 5-star QB's recruitment.
“The proximity to home, being able to hit (Interstate) 85 and being right back in the area…there’s a lot of things that Auburn does present,” On3's Phillip Dukes said on The Five-Star Flex. “Can they continue to recruit, continue to stockpile on the offensive line so they can prove they can protect Juju, and how do they finish with these other top receivers?”
Dukes believes that USC is still the favorite, however, because they are the incumbent.
“If I had to bust it down the middle, I wouldn’t lean any way with any of these schools,” Dukes prefaced before saying, “What I do think is that Colorado really gave the Lewis family a lot to think about this weekend. I think that Auburn is going to continue to push and I think that USC — as long as he’s committed to USC, I think you can never count them out, and I’d still say they are the leader, because that’s where he’s committed to.”
Julian Lewis got celebrity treatment in Boulder as Big Cat Weekend awaits Auburn football
The city of Boulder treated Lewis like a celebrity during his June 21-23 visit to the University of Colorado. The scariest image was not of Boulder restaurant The Sink's Juju’s Precision Pass Burger, but rather the picture of Shedeur Sanders dropping a pair of keys into the hands of Lewis; who's sitting on a throne.
Colorado may have more snaps to offer out of the gate and a hefty NIL payday with Shedeur, Shilo Sanders, and Travis Hunter coming off the books. Auburn has the kind of celebrity treatment locally that could appeal to the Deep South product.
Then there's L.A. with Lincoln Riley's USC Trojans. Lewis already committed there and could see playing time quickly, but he's clearly not completely satisfied since he's in Boulder and Auburn pondering a flip.
