The Auburn football program's official X account joined the growing viral trend across college football: a video clowning Colorado's infamous Shedeur Sanders-LaJohntay Wester touchdown pitch-and-catch with the caption "Darts only."

Auburn's video featured one video of Payton Thorne throwing outside spliced with another from inside the Woltosz Football Performance Center of freshman Alvin Gentry catching a pass and striding into the end zone.

The Shedeur social media firestorm reached AU territory, as does most things Colorado does for every fanbase. The "Darts Only" meme is child's play compared to the allegations slung at Deion Sanders' Buffs locker room -- everything from brandishing weapons to Coach Prime promoting fights. The AthlonSports report hasn't been verified yet, though. Many of it was media circle hearsay, but no one had enough to publish it. Steve Corder did, and his journalistic integrity has been called out by the likes of Mike Farrell and BuffStampede.com's Adam Munsterteiger for it.

Auburn football going viral for recruiting but can quickly be nationally relevant

It's recruiting that has put Hugh Freeze on the map nationally. Certainly not the 6-7 2023 season on the Plains.

Freeze is being recognized this offseason for what he's done on the trail -- turning the 2025 class into a top-five class and 2026 into the No. 1 class in the country. He figures to have more 2025 fireworks planned, with many believing Deuce Knight is his next big move.

Certainly, Freeze is running a tight ship relative to his conference and especially in comparison to some of the talk of what's going on in Boulder, Colorado. Freeze is hitting the recruiting trail and making his presence felt across the state and across the South. He's got the opposite plan to Coach Prime, who lets the recruits come to him and focuses on the transfer portal for 80% of his roster every season.
