Summer is here, and the Auburn football program is keeping things busy. While players prepare for summer workouts and look ahead to fall camp and the season, the coaches are working on keeping their team on track and recruiting the next generation of Auburn football players. Below are recent quotes of note from people in and around the program as the spring semester has finished up.
Jimmy Rane, Auburn booster and Board of Trustees member, on the Tigers' outlook with head coach Hugh Freeze, per The Montgomery Advertiser:
"I really like Hugh," Rane said Thursday at his foundation's banquet at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Montgomery. "I think he's a good guy, a good person and a good coach. I think it's obvious to anybody that follows football that his teams were better than the ones that were there before him. I don't have any reason to think he will not continue to work hard and improve. I'm very happy with him."
Luke Deal and offensive line coach Jake Thornton on Connor Lew stepping up as a leader and starter in his sophomore season, per Auburn Rivals:
“It’s impressive for someone that young to be leading the way they are,” said sixth-year tight end Luke Deal.
“He’s a very vocal, physical presence,” said Thornton. “Because of how well he did last year at practice, he’s going to get everybody’s best shot. And he’s really performed and as everybody else around him has elevated, he’s elevated his game even more.
Head coach Hugh Freeze on feelings about his second year on the Plains so far, per Auburn Undercover:
"Everything in the building feels better," Freeze said Thursday before Jimmy Rane's charity golf scholarship ceremony in Montgomery. "Hopefully that shows in the win column, also. I don't know that. But I do know we're going to be a better football team."
