Auburn Daily's Andrew Stefaniak laid out a dark horse candidate to lead the Auburn football receiving room in 2024: Georgia State's Robert Lewis (102 catches, 1,323 yards,14 touchdowns).

"Auburn's receiver room will be one of the most talented in the SEC next season, but young as many of the players will be freshmen," Stefaniak prefaced before saying, "A guy like Lewis can be the veteran leader of this receiver room and has a legitimate shot to lead the Tigers in receiving."

To achieve such a gaudy feat, Lewis would need to outperform the incoming Freeze Four of Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, Bryce Cain, and Malcolm Simmons. It'll come down to forming chemistry with either Payton Thorne, Walker White, or Hank Brown.

There's a lot of attention on White's connection with the Freeze Four, but who knows? Maybe Thorne can find another target alongside Rivaldo Fairweather and Jay Fair that he is comfortable with and locks down QB1 duties. And staving off two youthful QBs who have more momentum ahead of spring ball in the process.

Auburn football WR transfer Robert Lewis confident in scheme fit

Lewis being a good fit in AU is what the Covington, Georgia envisioned when he committed to the Tigers via the transfer portal in December.

“I feel like Auburn is the right fit for me because of the scheme that they run could fit with me,” the wide receiver told On3. “While talking about football with Coach (Marcus) Davis, we were really on the same page about a lot of things regarding my tape. We were both saying the same thing but in different verbiage. Also with the role I will be tasked with while being in the receiver room, I feel like I could help boost them to another level.”

Fit is essential to the entire operation. If the playbook is one for Lewis, Hugh Freeze has to find a QB who qualifies one as well.

If not, the confidence will exist only in the talking stages.
