Auburn Tigers New: Softball loses in OT heartbreaker, Cam Riley transfer destination
In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, the Auburn softball team lost to Georgia after 14 innings and former Auburn cornerback Cam Riley announces transfer destination
It was a heartbreaker for the Auburn softball team in what was the longest game in SEC Tournament history. The score was tied 2-2 from the fifth inning all the way up into the 14th inning, when KK McCrary knocked a three-run homer over centerfield, giving the Tigers a 5-2 lead.
But when Georgia came up to the plate for their final at-bat, two homeruns were enough to put the Dawgs up 5-6 for a walkoff win over the Tigers.
"We played hard," said head coach Mickey Dean, per Auburn Athletics. "If we were a little cleaner in the beginning of the game, we might not have played 14 innings. That's part of the game. We battled. We did a lot of good things. We just didn't win the ball game."
Auburn softball will now wait to hear their regional destination, which will be announced this Sunday.
Former Auburn linebacker Cam Riley announces transfer destination
It's been a rollercoaster of a ride for former Auburn football linebacker Cam Riley after entering the transfer portal. Riley entered the portal back in January, and took visits to both Florida State and NC State before committing to the Wolfpack.
However, he walked back on his commitment last month, and it seemed there was a movement to try to convince the linebacker to remain on the Plains. Auburn linebacker Eugene Asante called for the Auburn Family to encourage Riley to stick with the Tigers on X in late April.
The linebacker announced his decision to commit to Florida State earlier this week. He spent four seasons with Auburn football, totalling 120 tackles, 8 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
