In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, next season's conference opponents have been announced for Auburn basketball, and athletics director John Cohen talks about his future at Auburn

Earlier this week, the Southeastern Conference announced each school's conference opponents for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Conference play will begin on Saturday, January 4, and run through Saturday, March 8.

With Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC this season, scheduling will look slightly different. According to the SEC, 'the continuation and renewal of historic rivalries was a point of emphasis when creating the schedule' so each team will play the other 15 conference teams at least once, and three teams will be played twice. Two of those teams will be permanent opponents, and one will rotate each year. Auburn basketball's conference opponents are listed below:

Alabama

Arkansas

Florida

Georgia

Ole Miss

Mississippi State

Missouri

Oklahoma

Tennessee

at Alabama

at Georgia

at Kentucky

at LSU

at Ole Miss

at South Carolina

at Texas

at Texas A&M

at Vanderbilt

Athletics director John Cohen on his future at Auburn

Athletics director John Cohen signed a two-year extension on his previous deal with Auburn University earlier this month. Cohen's contract will now run through October of 2029. It appears that Cohen intends to be on the Plains long-term and revealed to AL.com the reason why.

Cohen and his wife, both Tuscaloosa natives, had thought about retiring in Tuscaloosa, but after giving it some thought Cohen suggested Auburn instead.

"I really thought about it, and I said, ‘How about Auburn?’ And she said, ‘Why Auburn?’ And I said, ‘Well the Atlanta airport is right there. The Gulf of Mexico is three-and-a-half hours away. It’s an easy drive. It’s a great town. It’s a great golfing community. They have a remarkable public school system, even when our kids are grown. It has always just stuck out to me as a wonderful place. We had talked about Auburn well before this opportunity became available.”

Cohen added, “I don’t want to live anywhere else.”

With so much already accomplished on the Plains during his tenure, Cohen has plenty to be proud of in his nearly two years spent in Auburn, but there is much more work remaining and Cohen is the perfect guy to continue spearheading improvements to Auburn Athletics.
