In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, another Auburn QB has entered the transfer portal and the Tigers add another commit to their class of 2026

After Auburn football's defeat in the Music City Bowl, the quarterback room has been the talk of the town. Can Payton Thorne really be that guy for Auburn? Is Hank Brown the future?

But another of the Tigers' quarterbacks elected to enter the transfer portal this morning. Senior reserve QB Sawyer Pate will finish up his collegiate career at another program with two years of eligibility remaining.

A 3-star recruit out of high school from Alabaster, AL, Pate played at Thompson High School and joined the Tigers as a walk-on. He saw no game action during his time on the Plains.

The Tigers have four remaining quarterbacks on scholarship who will compete for the starting job in 2024: Payton Thorne, Holden Geriner, Hank Brown, and 2024 signee Walker White. Pate is the second Auburn football quarterback to hit the portal after the 2023 season following Robby Ashford.

Tigers add another commit to their class of 2026

Heading into the New Year the Auburn football team has locked down their second commit in the recruiting class of 2026. Ranked as a 4-star wide receiver and the #90 player in the class of 2026, Denairius Gray has committed to the Tigers.

A native of Hollywood, FL, Gray plays high school ball at Chaminade Madonna High School. According to Auburn Rivals, Gray racked up 81 receptions for 1,124 yards and 25 touchdowns over two seasons. He has more than 20 offers from multiple Power Five schools including Georgia, Florida State, and Miami.

Gray joins Kail Ellis, an interior offensive lineman from Cartersville, Georgia, as the only two recruits so far in the Tigers' recruiting class of 2026.
