Auburn Tigers News: Auburn baseball sweeps EKU, AP poll predictions for Auburn basketball
In today's edition of Auburn Tigers news, the baseball team sweeps EKU in opening weekend and we look at AP poll predictions for Auburn basketball after the Kentucky loss
Baseball is back on the Plains and the Tigers returned in style on opening weekend. Auburn swept Eastern Kentucky, winning all three games of the series.
Friday's game started off strong, with Auburn baseball beating EKU 17-6 through the run rule in the seventh inning. Bats were clearly active for the Tigers, with Ike Irish leading the charge going 4-5 at bat with four RBIs.
Saturday's 6-1 victory clinched the series win with the spotlight on right-handed pitcher Joseph Gonzalez, who allowed only one unearned run and two hits in five innings, per Auburn Undercover.
The job was finished on Sunday with a 9-1 Auburn win. Left-handed pitcher Carson Myers allowed no runs and only two hits and recorded eight strike outs while third baseman Deric Fabian led the charge at the plate with three hits and four RBIs.
Auburn baseball will next take on UAB in Plainsman Park on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
AP poll predictions for Auburn basketball after the Kentucky loss
Though Auburn baseball had a triumphant weekend, things did not go well for Auburn basketball. The Tigers fell to Kentucky snapping the 16-win streak in Neville Arena. The Tigers were riding high at #13 after beating #11 South Carolina, but what will the poll look like this afternoon?
Brad Crawford of 247 Sports predicts that Auburn basketball will fall one spot, to #14, behind Kentucky, who will be slated at #13. Here's what he had to say about the Tigers:
"After scoring 100 points in a win over the Gamecocks early in the week, Auburn's dominance at home didn't continue Saturday against John Calipari and Kentucky. The Tigers' home winning streak is over at 16 games and they're awaiting word on second-leading scorer, Jaylin Williams, after he suffered a right knee injury midway through the second half."
The Tigers will get a break this week before hitting the road next Saturday to take on the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.
