In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Auburn Hoops gets a big win over Mississippi State and Auburn baseball is vying to win the series

In their second to last home game of the season, the Auburn basketball team showed out this weekend to get a big win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs, who beat the Tigers in Starkville earlier this season.

The scoring was pretty evenly spread out for Auburn in their 78-63 win over the Bulldogs, with Johni Broome leading all scorers with 17 points, Denver Jones with 15, and both Jaylin Williams and Chad Baker-Mazara with 10. The Tigers shot 50 percent from the field and 47 percent from behind the three point arc.

This week, Bruce Pearl and the boys will travel to Missouri for a Tiger on Tiger showdown, and they will finish up the regular season in Neville Arena next weekend against Georgia.

Auburn baseball is vying to win the series

Rain drowned the Plains on Friday night, which set the Auburn Tigers and the UConn Huskies up for a doubleheader on Saturday. Things started fantastically in game one, with head coach Butch Thompson believing the Tigers possibly played their best game of the season and earning an 8-1 victory over the Huskies.

“I thought it was the best game we’ve played all year in the first game,” coach Butch Thompson said, per Auburn Undercover. “I just thought it was clean on the mound. I love how Chase Allsup finished the game. I thought he was getting better. (John) Armstrong was tremendous. Our at-bats were good throughout the ball game. Defensively we were good. Just all the way around, I thought it was our best game. A complete game.

It was a different story, however, in game two, with starting pitcher Joseph Gonzalez having a bad off day and allowing six runs to pile up in the first inning. Afterward, the Tigers could not catch up with the Huskies and ultimately lost the second contest 8-3, dropping their second game of the season.

The two teams will face off in a rubber match this afternoon at Plainsman Park at 1:00 p.m.
