On Thursday night, Auburn softball pitcher Maddie Penta did what has only been done twice before in program history. The Tigers run ruled Georgia State 8-0 in six innings, and Penta pitched a perfect game. She has pitched six total no-hitters in her career.
She struck out 13 of 18 batters, and is the second pitcher in Auburn history to pitch two back-to-back no-hitters after throwing her first last Sunday against Northern Iowa.
Auburn softball is back in action tonight for a 5-game weekend, first facing Northwestern at Jane B. Moore Field this evening at 5:00 p.m.
Auburn baseball to host UConn
After a big win over the Samford Bulldogs earlier this week, Auburn baseball is set to welcome the UConn Huskies to Plainsman Park for a weekend three-game series. UConn, a team that swept Louisville and South Florida at the beginning of the season and is coming into their matchup with the Tigers after sweeping Cal on the road, will not be an easy dub for Auburn baseball.
Currently ranked #14 overall and with only one loss on the season so far, head coach Butch Thompson says he is still looking for consistency with his team in all aspects of the game.
“I just talk about consistency,” Thompson said, per Auburn Undercover. “We’re still looking for a game that we feel like is a complete game of what we’re trying to do. Just take our most recent ball game. We became vulnerable passing the baton getting to the bullpen. Command. The definition of command is being able to have authority over. Just us being able to have authority over the baseball for the entire game, authority over the strike zone. For our hitters, authority over the zone. I’m getting more and more confidence in our defense."
The Tigers' first game is Friday at 6:00 p.m., followed by matchups at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
