In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Auburn baseball wins the rubber match to take the series over UConn, and Auburn basketball head coach Bruce Pearl previews the midweek matchup
It was a roller coaster of a weekend for Auburn baseball. The Tigers hosted UConn for a three-game series over the weekend, and the Friday night rain set them up for a doubleheader on Saturday. Head coach Butch Thompson said that the first game was probably the most complete game his team has played, and the Tigers dominated for an 8-1 victory.
The second game was a different story, with pitching struggles putting the Tigers in a six point hole in the first inning that they were unable to overcome. They lost the second matchup 8-4. But Sunday Auburn prevailed again, with multiple home runs from sophomore Ike Irish helping secure the series with a 8-2 win over the Huskies.
Bruce Pearl previews the midweek matchup
With only two games left in the regular season, the Auburn basketball team is playing to secure seeding in both the SEC and NCAA tournaments. Though the Tigers got a big win over the weekend against Mississippi State, but the team suffered a loss with Lior Berman's season-ending injury, a torn ACL.
Head coach Bruce Pearl talked about Berman in the leadup to this week's matchup with Missouri, noting that the guard has been an important part of the program over the last five years, and that the whole team is extremely disappointed for him. He noted that the Tigers will have to work hard to beat the opposing Tigers this week.
"We're going to have to really play well," Pearl said, per Auburn Daily. "Again, they've got great guard play. They've got real length and size at the rim in three different 7-foot-type kids. They can make tough 2s. They do a great job making tough 2s and they do a great job getting to the foul line. We've got to guard without fouling. That's the biggest thing."
Missouri and Auburn will tip off from Columbia tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. on the SEC Network.
