In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Auburn basketball legend Chuma Okeke spends time with the 2024 team and Auburn football adds a late LB transfer
This week, Auburn basketball legend Chuma Okeke returned to the Plains. A member of the 2019 team that made the big Final Four run, Okeke spent two seasons in orange and blue before being drafted 16th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Like many former Tigers before him, Okeke made his way to Auburn this week to spend time with his former head coach, Bruce Pearl, and work out with this year's squad. He had some words of wisdom for the current Tigers, which Auburn basketball posted on X.
Auburn football adds a late LB transfer
Late Thursday evening, the Auburn football program announced the addition of another transfer. Former Maryland linebacker Fa'Najae Gotay entered the transfer portal back in June as a graduate transfer after spending six seasons with Maryland.
Gotay was a mainstay in the linebacker rotation for the Terrapins in 2019 and 2020 after redshirting as a freshman in 2018, when he played only four games. He missed the 2021 season after sustaining a season-ending injury in Maryland's season-opener, but appeared in every game for the Terps in 2022 and 2023. Over his six years in College Park, Gotay recorded 133 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, four passes deflected, and one forced fumble.
The second linebacker transfer to choose Auburn football, Gotay joins former Duke linebacker Dorian Mausi Jr. and returners Eugene Asante and Austin Keys. Gotay will provide another veteran presence for the young guys in the room, including Demarcus Riddick and DJ Barber.
Auburn Undercover reports that the Tigers were around the 80 scholarship mark, using offers on Gotay and another recently added transfer, Jahquez Robinson.
