In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Hugh Freeze talks about freshman QB Walker White and the Freeze 4 are standouts in scrimmage

Heading into the 2024 season, the role of Auburn football QB1 is all but locked down by returning starter Payton Thorne. Head coach Hugh Freeze has repeatedly told the media how confident he is in starting Thorne, and that this year's offense is going to be an improvement from last year.

But there are three quarterbacks behind Payton Thorne battling for the backup position, including true freshman Walker White. Though he is not expected to see the field this season as he continues to develop and transition to college ball, Freeze can clearly see White's potential.

"Walker has looked incredible in 7-on-7," Freeze said, per Auburn Undercover. "The game is a little fast for him right now in the 11-on-11 realm, when he's got to think about the protections and fixing those, that's new to him yet. But as far as him getting in 7-on-7, and he knows the routes that are running, man. He looks really good."

While Thorne is the present QB1, White has every opportunity to be the future of the position on the Plains.

Freeze 4 are standouts in scrimmage

The Auburn football team had their first live scrimmage this weekend in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Practice was open to the media and members of On To Victory, and many of the players are not giving full effort to avoid injuries and prioritize safety ahead of the season, the Tigers' group of true freshman wide receivers put on a show.

Malcolm Simmons had multiple catches and multiple touchdowns, including one on a long pass from Thorne that was tipped by defender Caleb Wooden.

Bryce Cain, Perry Thompson, and Cam Coleman each got in on the playmaking action, too, even if some of the big plays were not against the starters. As the quartet continue to adjust to playing on the collegiate level their skills can only improve.
