In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, safety Jaylin Simpson accepts an invitation to the 2024 NFL Combine and a former Auburn football player enters the transfer portal once again

After a fantastic 2023 season on the Plains, senior Jaylin Simpson has his eyes on the highest level of professional football: the NFL. The safety was invited to the Reese's Senior Bowl earlier this season, and announced his intentions to play in the prestigious game and declare for the 2024 NFL Draft.

While the Senior Bowl provides opportunities for players to get noticed by NFL staffers, the NFL Combine is the premiere chance to improve draft stock ahead of the big event. According to Auburn Live, Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy believes Simpson has the skills to be a successful NFL player:

“So you’re talking about a guy that’s gonna blow up the combine,” Nagy said. “You see the range. He’s got true centerfield skills, and probably athletic enough to play some nickel. I think that’s what a lot of teams right now are looking for, that nickel/free type of player, and they’ve got so many good ones.”

Former Auburn football player re-enters transfer portal

A former Auburn Tiger is on the hunt for a new school again. Romello Height, an edge rusher who just spent the past two seasons in Los Angeles with Southern Cal has entered the transfer portal.

A native of Dublin, GA, Height was ranked as a 4-star outside linebacker and was the #29 recruit at his position in the recruiting class of 2020. He signed with Auburn football, and saw game action in one contest as a true freshman. In 2021, Height played nine games and recorded 18 total tackles and four quarterback hurries. He ends his USC career with 21 tackles, four sacks, and one fumble recovery.
