In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, a recent transfer portal entry hits close to home and head coach Hugh Freeze is predicted to take over play calling duties

Last night was not a good night for the Auburn football program and its fans. After releasing multiple statements and a detailed video confirming his plans to stay on the Plains for another season, it has been reported that star defensive back Keionte Scott has entered the transfer portal.

There is much speculation on why Scott would enter the portal just days after affirming his love for Auburn, but the bottom line is that the Tigers badly need Scott for next season and losing a veteran defensive back is not good news at all.

Despite having entered his name in the portal, which closed January 4, Scott will still have the option to pull his name out and stick with the Tigers. The DB has been a vocal leader and recruiter for this Auburn football team and he will be a significant loss if he chooses to play elsewhere.

Head coach Hugh Freeze expected to take over play calling duties

Yesterday news broke that Auburn football officially fired offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery. From the beginning, head coach Hugh Freeze made it clear that Montgomery was being hired to call plays so Freeze could step back and focus on recruiting.

While the recruiting game was strong this year, the planning game was not. The Tigers struggled consistently on offense, and in the worst games it was often mentioned that Freeze had little to do with the game plan or that it was a team effort, essentially proving that without Freeze's oversight there could not be a competent offense.

With Montgomery gone, Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports reports that analyst Kent Austin, who was co-OC with Freeze at Liberty, will be promoted to QB coach and Freeze will take over playcalling duties.
