Big 12 doesn't have money to pay for FSU and Clemson without 'pissing off' its members

Mike Farrell (of the Mike Farrell Sports brand) believes that the college football world needs to slow its roll when it comes to FSU and Clemson imminently leaving the ACC to join the Big 12 within the next year.

Farrell believes the Big 12 would need to spend money it doesn't have and risk upsetting its current members to pony up the funds necessary to bring the pair on board.

"Rumors of the Big 12 helping to pay a buyout for both is ridiculous as they don’t have the money for such a thing without dipping into TV revenue and pissing off other teams in the conference," Farrell wrote. "I love realignment rumors. And we will continue to report and speculate on them because it’s fun. But we will also speak what we know. And right now, Clemson and FSU aren’t going to the Big 12 — and they don’t want to anyhow."

Big 12 expected to poach FSU, Clemson, and four other ACC schools

Longtime college football radio host Greg Swaim reported that the Big 12 is the move for FSU and Clemson because the Big Ten and SEC turned them down -- and that four other schools would be joining them.

"As we've said for a year, FSU and Clemson will not get a B1G offer, due to neither being AAU accredited," Swaim prefaced before saying, "But from Vegas the talk is the SEC has now turned the pair down. With new sponsorship the B12 probably won't pay quite what the other two do, but with those two they'll pay double what the ACC does.

"And it won't end there. The talk is the B12 will take six from the ACC."

If the Big 12 is going to be making big moves, it seems it'll cost them a pretty penny -- and perhaps the goodwill of its members.
