Multiple Auburn football targets in the recruiting class of 2025 have decommitted from Alabama after weekend visits to the Plains

The recent retirement announcement from Alabama head coach Nick Saban threw a major wrench in the Crimson Tide's plans, especially when it comes to recruiting. Luckily for us, the Auburn football program only stands to benefit from the downfall of the Tide.

Over the weekend, the Tigers hosted a group of recruits on campus, including multiple athletes who were committed to the Crimson Tide. Both Zion Grady and Dontrell Glover told the media that they were interested in Auburn football but waiting to see how things shake out with the new staff in Tuscaloosa.

Since then, the pair of highly-ranked recruits have both decommitted from Alabama, opening the door for head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff to make their move.

5-star Zion Grady is ranked as the #1 edge in the recruiting class of 2025 and the #2 prospect out of the state of Alabama. Florida State and Georgia will be the main competition for Auburn, but Grady intends to visit the Plains again this spring. According to AL.com, the primary reason for his decommitment is the change in staff:

“The coaches that recruited me are no longer there. The lack of communication was ultimately the reason why my family decided to open my recruitment back up,” Grady told high school reporter Ben Thomas.

4-star Dontrell Glover is ranked as the #10 inside offensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2025 and the #25 recruit out of the state of Georgia. With his coaches no longer on staff at Alabama, Glover plans to hear out his top programs, which include Texas, Tennesse, Missouri, Florida, and Auburn, while getting to know the new coaches in Tuscaloosa.

He was on the Plains last weekend, and will visit Tennessee this weekend. He plans to take his time with his recruitment, per On3:

“I am planning to commit during the season or closer to signing day,” Glover said. “I will take my official visits first, then make my decision. Everyone that has been recruiting me has a chance.”
