After surviving with a win over No. 6 Tennessee in Neville Arena last weekend, the Auburn basketball team is hitting the road to face their next SEC opponent: the LSU Tigers.
Auburn heads into the game undefeated in conference play with an 18-1 record and an 11-game win streak. Meanwhile, LSU has a 12-7 overall record and is 1-5 in conference play. Auburn is coming off a hard-fought victory over No. 6 Tennessee, while LSU is coming off a 7-point loss to Alabama, although they played the game close for most of the 40 minutes.
The Tigers welcomed back Johni Broome, who had missed the previous two games with an ankle injury, and there are no other injuries to report for Auburn heading into the game. Here is what head coach Bruce Pearl had to say ahead of their matchup with LSU.
Pearl on Tahaad Pettiford's and Chaney Johnson's efforts off the bench, per Auburn Rivals:
“I think it speaks a lot about, let's just say, the character of those two kids. They have a starter impact. And it really does help us when we go to the bench and we don't drop off. We just get different.”
Pearl on the SEC conference schedule being similar to football, per Auburn Live:
“It does remind me a little bit of SEC football, in a sense that if you look at, just take Georgia and Ohio State, you know, Ohio State has a couple of big games in the Big Ten, you know, obviously, Michigan’s a big game, Penn State’s a big game, you know. But, you know, I don’t know the strength of the football conference. It’s not like the SEC and so every single Saturday, you got a chance to get physically whooped, mentally whooped."
Pearl on facing LSU, per Auburn Undercover:
"Cam Carter can really score. He's got the ultimate green light. Sears has got great range. He's a great 3-point shooter, and yet he's got blow-by speed going either way. So he doesn't have a real tendency as far as his penetration is concerned. And their big guys get it. They had like 13 or 14 offensive rebounds in the first half against Alabama. LSU is one of the most, I think, athletic teams in our league. Their speed and quickness and jumping ability will bother anybody they play against."
