Auburn football players share their thoughts after losing another conference game at home

It was the same old story in Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday. The Auburn Tigers began playing relatively well and kept Vanderbilt out of the endzone for the most part. But while the defense was able to do its part, the offense struggled to move the ball down the field at all, and by the fourth quarter it was too much to expect the defense to keep things going.

For the entire game, the defense was stellar, shutting down Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia at every turn and making this a completely winnable game for Auburn. But for some reason, running back Jarquez Hunter was barely used in the game despite his historic performance from last week, and Payton Thorne got way too many chances at throwing the ball.

This weekend, just like nearly every weekend this season, it feels like Auburn football beat itself. Here's what the players had to say:

QB Payton Thorne on the offense, per Auburn Undercover:

"It comes down to execution. It's a simple game when you talk about it like that. If each guy does his job normally, the outcome is that you get into the end zone, so we must not be doing that. Again, I will have to look at the film to get those corrections, but it is something obviously we need to focus on."

LB Dorian Mausi Jr. on the loss, per Auburn Undercover:

"It sucks. It sucks to go out there and beat somebody on the stat sheet and not come out with the win."

OL Dillon Wade on the defense, per Auburn Rivals:

“It feels like we're kind of letting those guys down, because I watched them destroy themselves every day at practice and go out there on the field and ball every chance they get. I just feel like as an offensive player, we need to give them more points and put them on the field as much as possible.
