Auburn football players speak out after another disappointing loss on the road

It was another disappointing week for the Auburn Tigers, who traveled to Columbia this weekend to take on the Missouri Tigers. Despite playing well in the first half and going up 17-6 in the third quarter, the Tigers found a way to squander the lead in what has become typical for Auburn this season and lost the game 21-17.

Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze said it was "another disappointing day" and that he was "bitter" over the loss. Below is what the players had to say following the game.

Linebacker Eugene Asante on the defense, per Auburn Undercover:

"At this point, I'm remorseful for what we're doing. We've got to play better. As a team, we have to hold ourselves to a standard."

Linebacker Jalen McLeod on making third-down stops, per Auburn Rivals:

"I don't care what the offense did -- when I'm on the field, we're playing for defense. They drove down 95 yards? We've got to get off the field. We've got to be better than that, simple as that. We had them second-and-18, third-and-12, however long. You've got to get off the field.”

Linebacker Dorian Mauis Jr. on game plan, execution, per Auburn Undercover:

"The calls are great, they put us in a position to make plays. You saw how many sacks we got, how many times we rushed the passer. We were in a position to make the play, but when the play gets extended that's when we really need to lock in and do our job and stay doing our job and not try to do somebody else's job and not try to make a play that's not our play to make."

The Auburn football team will try again this Saturday against the Kentucky Wildcats. They will kick off from Lexington at 6:45 p.m.
