The Men's College World Series is in full swing in Omaha, and already, two SEC squads have been sent home from the Cornhusker State. One was even destroyed in historical fashion on Monday afternoon, completing one of the most brutal runs in the CWS in decades.
Let's take a look at the SEC's two major storylines at the Men's College World Series during the past several days, the eliminations of the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ole Miss Rebels by the Texas Longhorns and Troy Trojans, respectively:
Texas gives Alabama a historic beatdown at the College World Series
Per Bama247Sports' Mike Rodak, "Best I can tell, with Alabama losing 14-2 to Texas in the 9th inning, this will be the largest negative run differential (-21) for a CWS team that was swept since Colorado State College (now Northern Colorado) was outscored by 25 runs in the 1957 College World Series."
Rob Vaughn took on a tough situation after the infamous Brad Bohannon gambling scandal, all told, but he finally got his team to the CWS in year three. It was a good season, but it ended on two extremely sour notes: a 14-2 rout at the Longhorns' hands that was out of hand by the second inning, and a 9-0 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday night.
Alabama baseball finishes the 2026 season with a 42-20 record and an 18-12 mark in the SEC. Vaughn was proud of his team's effort following the Crimson Tide's 23-2 run discrepancy over their final two games.
"We see this all over. If you come Tuscaloosa you see signs that say where legends are made, and these guys did that. These guys, there's a group of dudes sitting here, obviously two next to me, and a team that revitalized baseball in Tuscaloosa. They've got 7,500 people out to a game last week, to see them do something that hadn't been done in 27 years. Proud of obviously the effort, proud of the year," Vaughn said.
Alabama and Florida 4-star recruits get flipped by rivals
Troy stuns Ole Miss at the Men's College World Series
While Texas was a heavy favorite over Alabama, Troy was a dog that stepped up a weight class and knocked out Ole Miss on Sunday. The Trojans overcame an early deficit to win a 12-8 shocker to send the Rebels back to the Sip.
Ole Miss took a 6-2 loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday night. The Rebels were 41–23 overall and 15–15 in the SEC in 2026. Long-time Ole Miss baseball manager Mike Bianco struck a similar tone to Vaughn on his team's performance, offering a hopeful message on the Rebels' run.
“My hope is as the days and weeks pass, I hope they realize what a tremendous season they had … so proud of those guys (seniors),” Bianco told reporters in Omaha. “Just told them on the field how indebted I am, the coaches are, Ole Miss and all the fans are indebted to them for righting the ship and gettin’ us back here.”
The last time Ole Miss made the CWS in 2022, Bianco and Co. won the championship. There's no need to sweat the loss and elimination after its first final-eight finish in four years. The Rebels fully expect to be back in Omaha soon, though how soon is unclear after replacing a veteran group with impact transfers and up-and-coming high school recruits.
