The SEC had an eventful Monday, with Brian Kelly finding his second job after being fired by the LSU Tigers last November. Kelly, who previously landed a consulting gig with the Memphis Tigers earlier this month, is now entering the broadcasting realm.
Meanwhile, the Ole Miss Rebels kept a blue-chip recruit in the state of Mississippi. While not on the tear Lane Kiffin's LSU Tigers have been on, Pete Golding's Rebels got a major victory at a crucial position. The Tennessee Volunteers also took a notable blue-chip recruiting loss.
Here were the gridiron headlines on Wednesday:
Brian Kelly to call Mountain West games for CBS Sports in 2026
Per Front Office Sports' Ryan Glasspiel, "Brian Kelly will call college football games for CBS this season, sources told Front Office Sports. ... CBS Sports has one Big Ten football game a week, as well as Mountain West rights. This season, Charles Davis is replacing Gary Danielson alongside Brad Nessler on Big Ten games at the network. Kelly is expected to be part of a three-man booth on Mountain West games on the broadcast network, one source said."
Kelly previously had an unpaid gig with Memphis, which allowed him to keep his LSU buyout money, and now gets a job that should pay him a little bit. Kelly never coached a team in the Mountain West, but football is football. It's a good marketing ploy to have Kelly in there. Tiger fans may be willing to hate-watch, while Notre Dame Fighting Irish fans may want to tune in to hear the former coach, who is still revered in South Bend.
Ole Miss commit flips twice at Colorado's expense, Alabama and Texas have huge days
Ole Miss lands 4-star Tupelo OT
In the day's biggest recruiting victory across the "It Just Means More" conference, the Rebs kept a versatile offensive lineman in the Magnolia State. 4-star Tupelo OT Antonio Berry, listed as an IOL on some recruiting services, will bring his ability to play all across the front five to Oxford, Mississippi, in 2027.
Berry is quick and excels at run-blocking, which has some projecting him to be a guard. Truth be told, he has the size to be great sealing the edge on either side. We'll see how Ole Miss uses him next fall.
LSU flips Houston WR, Alabama surprises with 3-star CB
Tennessee loses 4-star Alabama prospect
There was no flip, not yet, but 4-star Cherokee County (AL) defensive tackle prospect Kadin Fife de-committed from the Vols on Wednesday. It appears Fife has wandering eyes within the SEC, with the Rebels and Georgia Bulldogs reportedly emerging as the main threats to complete the flip. The Auburn Tigers are also in on the Centre native and have been chipping away at his recruitment for the past several months. Fife comes from Chattooga, Georgia, where he played in the GHSA's Class AA, Region 7-AA division.
Fife committed to a different defense, one that had Tim Banks when he had enough interest to shut down his recruitment. Jim Knowles has a much different style and has a system that's more than a bit on the complicated side.
