5-star Baylor (TN) running back David Gabriel Georges is nearing his recruiting decision, but that doesn't mean he's necessarily close to making his choice. DGG revealed several updates about his recruitment, which is set to conclude on July 22. The Tennessee Volunteers, Ole Miss Rebels, and Ohio State Buckeyes are all in the mix for DGG.
Elsewhere, former Texas Longhorns, Houston Cougars, and FAU Owls head coach Tom Herman found his next job in college football.
Here were the latest headlines with an SEC tie-in around the gridiron:
David Gabriel Georges shares several updates on his recruitment
DGG made his recruitment sound more old-school than how negotiations typically work in the post-COVID-19 era of college sports: taking the biggest check available. Gabriel Georges claimed he isn't talking money until after seeing each campus.
"I really didn’t want to know. I didn’t want to be on a visit knowing what schools were going to pay me. I wanted to experience each school for what it was, how comfortable I felt at each school and where I fit in the best," DGG said.
"It’s hard. You feel this way, like you know, and then it’s sort of 50-50. People will say the 22nd of July is far off, but honestly for me, it’s pretty close."
Gabriel Georges once looked like a lock to go to the Ohio State University, but Tennessee seems to be keeping itself in the mix. Jimmy Haslam, the owner of the Cleveland Browns, donated money to UT for the school's cause, but the Vols still might not be able to top the Buckeyes' offer. At least financially.
Meanwhile, it speaks volumes that the Rebels have stayed in the hunt here. Ole Miss has remained in the conversation, and while practically no one has a crystal ball for Gabriel Georges to land in Oxford, the Rebs have an interesting spot in the DGG race, to say the least.

Tom Herman could rebuild his value at FSU
Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell hired Herman to serve in an advisory role in Tallahassee this fall. It's not hard to trace the need for Herman on Norvell's staff to Gus Malzahn's retirement in February.
Herman will bring help to Norvell with play-calling. While Norvell has had success in the past with the clipboard in his hand, Herman infamously helped guide Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett, and Cardale Jones to a championship at OSU in 2014/2015. That was as close to an offensive play-caller's championship as exists.
While Herman seems like a bit of a prayer for Norvell, who has one of the hottest seats in the sport, the Noles could be an adequate springboard to head coaching interest if it all goes right. The extent of a potential offensive renaissance in Florida's capital city could determine whether it'd be a Group of Six or Power 4 consideration. Where exactly on the map jobs open up will also dictate Herman's future.
Either way, an interesting dice roll for Norvell late in the offseason just before fall camp opens up.
