Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss received the chance to return for another season by a judge at the Calhoun County Courthouse in Pittsboro, Mississippi, this offseason. With it, Chambliss got the chance to truly make the Rebels' rivalry with the LSU Tigers a heated one. He let Lane Kiffin and his coaching staff know he was coming for them on September 19.
Elsewhere, LSU flipped a 4-star defensive back from the Texas Longhorns, who happens to be from the Lone Star State.
Here were Thursday's headlines from the SEC on the gridiron:
Trinidad Chambliss warns LSU he's already circled September 19
Chambliss told On3's Wilson Alexander that "Louisiana State University" is the game he's already looking forward to the most.
"Lane Kiffin is at LSU now, Weis is at LSU now, and some of our former players that were on the team last year are at LSU. It’s starting to be a pretty heated rivalry now," Chambliss said about the head coach of his who left Ole Miss high and dry in the middle of a CFP run.
Using LSU's registered government name speaks volumes. It's clear there's no love lost between Chambliss and those who ditched what was built in Oxford to go to the shiny new object in Baton Rouge. Chambliss is clearly looking to show up Kiffin and Charlie Weis Jr. and prove to the offensive dynamos that he could win without them. With Weis, Chambliss produced one of the brilliant performances of the 2025/2026 CFP: a 30/46 effort for 362 passing yards and two touchdowns during a 39-34 win over the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl this past January. Under both, Chambliss became the first SEC player over the past 30 years to amass 300 passing yards and 50 rushing yards in three consecutive games during the 2025 regular season, against the Arkansas Razorbacks, Tulane Green Wave, and, wouldn't you know it, Louisiana State University.
Beating the Bayou Bengals head-to-head might be more important to Rebs fans than making the CFP again. That's how pressing it is for the Tigers to be slain for those in the Athletic Red and Powder Blue.
LSU flips 4-star Lone Star State DB from Texas
LSU dominated the news cycle on Thursday, with a major recruiting win on the trail: flipping 4-star Manvel (TX) DB Karnell James from the Texas Longhorns. The Houston-area product is a safety by trade but can flex to the nickel and corner spots. His talent can get him on the field quicker at the latter two positions, but he has the ball-hawking skills and tackling ability to develop into an anti-big-play safety.
Nicknamed "Greedy," James is a major win for recruiting assistant Ed Orgeron, who has been a major recruiting boon since returning to the program after a four-year hiatus, during which Brian Kelly failed to make any significant progress over the years after making the SEC Championship Game in 2022.
Kiffin has been cooking on the trail in June and now July, and has convinced several former Tigers I've spoken to ahead of NBC's 2026 American Century Championship, including Patrick Peterson and Andrew Whitworth, to believe that contention and possible championships could be soon to follow.
You got to like his odds at some point if patience in the Bayou could persist beyond one or two title-less seasons.
