Stephen A. Smith told Cam Newton who he believes Auburn football should hire, and it's certainly a name Tiger fans shouldn't be surprised linked to AU right now: Deion Sanders. Smith believes Coach Prime should be at an SEC school instead of Colorado.

“I understand Boulder, Colorado. I’ve seen the stadium,” Smith said (h/t On3). “I was there twice, for crying out loud, Deion got me to come to Boulder, Colorado. I get that part. But it ain’t 100,000 showing up in Death Valley or Alabama or Georgia. There’s a different flavor that comes with it. I didn’t say he needed it. I didn’t say that. What I said was, it doesn’t negate the fact that there’s an elevated level of fervor in certain confines that don’t exist elsewhere. Come on now, you watch Colorado, you’ve seen it. I know the crowd, they’re supporting him, they’re there for him, the whole bit, Cam. But come on now. It’s different in the SEC.

“And by the way, Cam: I think Auburn should be looking at him, too. How about that?”

Auburn likely isn't looking at any new head coaches in the offseason. Even if/when Auburn ends up at 4-8 or 5-7, Hugh Freeze will probably keep his job. Losing Deuce Knight to Ole Miss, which Lane Kiffin is scheming as we speak, could change this conversation if the collateral damage is bad enough.

USA Today's Matt Hayes believes Deion could've had an impact on Auburn, and the SEC at large, that would've been bigger than football.

"If Deion were the coach at Auburn, his big, bold personality could’ve convinced – wait, willed – SEC presidents to play annual non-conference games against HBCU schools, those million dollar paydays for guarantee games alleviating financial strain for some of the 54 football-playing institutions. Maybe even allowing them to survive and thrive," Hayes wrote.

We may never know how Sanders could've transformed the "It Just Means More" conference. What we do know is that Coach Prime will never come to the Plains at any point in his head coaching career.
