While Auburn football continued to struggle toward its fifth-straight losing season, other teams on the Plains thrived during 2025. Bruce Pearl led the Tigers to its second Final Four in program history, while Butch Thompson and Auburn baseball rebounded after a disappointing season to win an NCAA Regional.
On the golf course, the defending national champions ran away from their competition in the NCAA Regional on their home course, while track and field saw Ja’Kobe Tharp cap off an amazing season as one of three finalists for The Bowerman.
But what were the top moments this past year for Auburn fans? Here are our top 10, with No. 8-10 coming today.
10. Jackson Koivun wins Regional, earns PGA Tour card
It wasn’t a question of if the sophomore would earn his PGA Tour card through the PGA Tour U Accelerated Program, but when. After winning the individual prize at the NCAA Regional, a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships was the moment Koivun was officially a card-carrying member of the PGA Tour.
As a freshman, he had won almost every award possible, including helping lead Auburn to a national championship. As a sophomore, he got even better. The bad news for opponents? He’s returned for his junior season with eyes on the NCAA Individual Championship.
9. Tharp claims two national titles
It wasn’t enough for Tharp to win the indoor 60m hurdles; the Murfreesboro, Tenn., native went and won the outdoor 110m hurdles as well, becoming the first Tiger to do so since 2007. Tharp’s performance helped Auburn to a third-place finish at the 2025 indoor national championships.
8. Sweep of No. 3 LSU in Plainsman Park
The Bayou Bengals, the reigning national champions, came into Plainsman Park ranked No. 3 in the nation, while the Tigers had climbed into the top 10.
Three days later, Butch Thompson’s squad pulled out a 3-2 nail-biting win against LSU to complete the sweep, the first three-game sweep of LSU since 1998.
