Each year, the Maxwell Award is awarded to the outstanding player in college football, and this year, two Auburn football players have been named to the watchlist released by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday.
Junior quarterback Jackson Arnold and sophomore wide receiver Cam Coleman were named to the list. Heading into the 2025 season, Arnold and Coleman are two of the most talked-about Auburn football players. While Coleman is returning for his sophomore season and is poised to be even more successful than during his freshman campaign, Arnold transferred from Oklahoma and represents a new way forward for the Tigers after two seasons with Payton Thorne.
As a sophomore at Oklahoma last year, Arnold recorded 1,421 yards, 12 touchdowns and three interceptions, completing 62.3 percent of his passes. Last year on the Plains, Coleman logged 37 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns.
80 players were named to the Maxwell Award watchlist, and Auburn is one of 16 schools with two players on the list. The SEC had 17 players named to the list, the most of any conference.
According to the Maxwell Football Club, finalists for the award will be announced on November 11, and the three finalists will be announced on November 25. The winner will be announced as part of the Dec. 11 ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
Last year's winner of the Maxwell Award was running back Ashton Jeanty from Boise State.
Auburn football returns on Friday, August 29, with its season opener against Baylor in Texas.
